Context/Location
Located in the formerly industrial district of Naujamiestis this apartment is a place of peace in the intense urban surroundings. What used to be a manufacturing area became an attractive area for settlers looking for an intense city life. The apartment is located in a fresh terraced housing volume, which is accompanied by a co-working space Tech Zity and Loftas cultural center. The southeast orientation and the first-floor corner positioning deliver a unique experience for its residents.
Function
Designed as a bright and transparent sanctuary of peace in the dense urban surroundings, this apartment has a unique configuration. The key concept of the layout was to make the space as bright, open and spacious as possible. For this, a glass bedroom with a transforming curtain was established. To keep the remaining space unoccupied, the storage furniture and kitchen segment were placed to cover the longest remaining wall. This also serves as an acoustic barrier, which separates the space from the neighbour.
Materials and Lighting
The material selection emphasized a minimalist and natural approach to this serene space. The serene, zen-white colour was chosen as the primary hue to maintain the area's brightness, while solid oak and terrazzo tile were used to elegantly cover the floor spaces. A pristine quality of aluminium is present within the framed glass partition, electrical outlets and some stand-alone furniture. A light Corian surface landed on the kitchen top. Lighting fixtures were designed as guides, emphasizing the linear composition of the space and also as light points, which are easily maintained and collaborate with the idea of simplicity.
Atmosphere
This apartment is an island of peace and serenity in the fast-paced contemporary urban life. It is a bright, open and visually unconstrained place of recreation and focused remote work. Intense city life is very present here, while at the same time, there is a possibility to visually disappear into privacy mode.
